Ritratto di famiglia al metro quadro con… parto!

Non capita spesso di scattare un ritratto di famiglia poco prima che il bambino decida di nascere.
Ma soprattutto, non capita spesso di essere fotografati con una fotocamera di oltre un metro quadrato.
Lavoriamo in grandissimo formato, la fotocamera si chiama Bertha, ha un tiraggio di circa quattro metri di soffietto ed è in grado di realizzare un ingrandimento fino 3:1.
Con il nostro collaudato processo di inversione, che abbiamo sia per il bianco e nero, sia per il colore, invertiamo la carta fotografica negativa ottenendo così un positivo diretto unico.
One square meter family portrait with… birth!

It’s not often you get to take a family portrait just before the baby decides to be born.
But above all, it is not often that you are photographed with a camera of more than one square meter.
We work in very large format, the camera is called Bertha, it has a bellows reach of around four meters and is capable of reaching a magnification of up to 3:1.
With our proven reversal process, which we have for both black and white and color, we reverse the negative photographic paper thus obtaining a unique direct positive.
Il set luci per illuminare la scena in considerazione della bassissima sensibilità della carta fotografica e del tiraggio richiesto, è corredato di generatori flash per 9000 w/s.
E’ un lavoro molto complicato il nostro, anche solo correggere l’ inquadratura richiede uno sforzo notevole, poi non sai mai come andranno le cose finché non vedi il risultato finale.
Raramente succede di sbagliare una fotografia, eppure…
Avevamo fatto tutte le nostre prove, ma qualcosa è sfuggito al nostro controllo.
Dopo circa tre ore di lavoro, lo sviluppo finale ci consegna una fotografia sovraesposta, non riusciamo a capirne il motivo.
Buttare un metro quadrato di gelatina d’ argento lascia un po’ di amaro in bocca.
Cristina che porta il bimbo in grembo, è affaticata.
The light set to illuminate the scene, considering the very low sensitivity of the photographic paper and the required draw, is equipped with flash generators for 9000 w/s.
Our job is very complicated, even just correcting the framing requires a considerable effort, then you never know how things will go until you see the final result.
It rarely happens that you get a photograph wrong, and yet…
We had done all our tests, but something got out of our control.
After about three hours of work, the final development gives us an overexposed photograph, we can’t understand why.
Throwing away a square meter of silver gelatin leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth.
Cristina, who is carrying the baby in her womb, is tired.
Dopo lo sconforto iniziale e dopo aver esaminato ogni dettaglio, ci rendiamo conto che l’ errore è dovuto alla variazione del tiraggio del soffietto per un cambio di inquadratura.
Una piccola variazione di ben 50cm!!!
Decidiamo di rifare lo scatto, si chiude il diaframma di uno stop e un terzo, si riparte con la coreografia.
Altre due ore per curare tutti i passaggi, Cristina e Mattia, i futuri genitori, sono con noi in camera oscura durante le fasi di sviluppo con la nostra gigantesca tank.
Finalmente ci siamo, questa volta tutto sembra andare per il meglio.

We’re finally here, this time everything seems to be going well.
Eccola, lo sviluppo finale a pennello ci consegna lo scatto completo, un risultato davvero spettacolare, un lavoro di squadra ben eseguito.
Ma non è finita, la sorpresa più grande sarebbe arrivata più tardi, con Achille, 3,5kg, sano e bello come il sole.
Chissà, magari sarà stato disturbato dai flash?
Here it is, the final development with a brush gives us the complete shot, a truly spectacular result, a well-executed team effort.
But there’s more, the biggest surprise would come later, with Achille, 3.5kg, healthy and beautiful as the sun.
