La fantasia è alla base del mio modo di interpretare la fotografia attraverso la creazione di fotocamere.
Al Festival della Fotografia Sperimentale chiamato BRANCOTYPE e organizzato dal gruppo di sperimentazione BRANCO OTTICO, mi sono imbattuto in molti esperimenti che mi hanno ispirato e trascinato attraverso nuove strade da percorrere.
Fantasy is the basis of my way of interpreting photography through the creation of various kinds of cameras.
At the Experimental Photography Festival called BRANCOTYPE and organized by the group of experimentation BRANCO OTTICO, I came across many experiments that have me inspired and dragged through new paths to follow.

Le fotocamere grande formato erano rimaste a me sconosciute fino a quel momento e non resistevo dalla voglia di metterci mano e progettare qualcosa di nuovo.
Ho quindi trascorso ore in rete a cercare materiale informativo per poter iniziare la costruzione di una piccola fotocamera grande formato, partendo da chassis di una Rolleiflex, acquistati insieme a un dorso originale Rolleicord degli anni ’50.
Il progetto nella mente si è velocemente trasformato in prototipo con ottica “Industar” 23 f/4.5 110mm recuperato su EBAY per 30 euro, il resto dei materiali l’ ho reperito facendo un giro nella ferramenta più vicina a casa.
A fotocamera ultimata ho eseguito dei test per constatarne il corretto funzionamento, per verificare la tenuta di luce ho usato della carta fotografica diretta negativa, materiale che utilizzo normalmente per gli esperimenti nelle mie pinhole cameras.
La fase costruttiva più delicata, è riuscire ad avere una perfetta corrispondenza di messa a fuoco tra vetro smerigliato e materiale sensibile, ovvero, ciò che si vede quando si fa l’ inquadratura deve apparire uguale al risultato dello scatto fotografico.
The large format cameras had remained unknown to me until then and not I resisted the desire to get by and design something new.
Then I spent hours on the net looking for information material to start construction of a small large format camera, starting from a Rolle flex chassis, purchased along with an original Rolle cord back from the 50s.
The project in mind quickly turned into a prototype with “Industar” 23 f / 4.5 optics 110mm recovered on EBAY for 30 euros, the rest of the materials I found by walking around closer to home.
When the camera was finished I ran tests to see if it worked properly, I check the tightness of light I used direct photographic negative paper, the material I use normally for experiments in my pinhole cameras.
The most delicate construction phase is to be able to have a perfect correspondence of setting up fire between frosted glass and sensitive material, that is, what you see when you do the framing must appear equal to the result of the photo shoot.
Ho deciso poi di creare un sistema compatibile con le pellicole istantanee Fuji Instax Mini, giusto per rendere la cosa ancora più divertente.
Per permettere la fase di sviluppo delle istantanee Fuji, è necessario farle scorrere attraverso la pressione di particolari rulli, che io ho recuperato da una vecchia Polaroid, i quali attivano le chimiche rilasciate da piccoli serbatoi.
Sono quasi le quattro del pomeriggio, la curiosità mi travolge, non posso resistere ed esco a scattare una foto banalissima alla prima cosa che mi trovo davanti, la mia auto parcheggiata.

Metto subito il porta pellicole Fuji al buio dentro una changing bag per fare scorrere la pellicola tra i rulli, sviluppandola.
Apro la changing bag e con grande emozione vedo l’ immagine formarsi davanti ai miei occhi.
Preso dallo slancio, continuo a scattare foto in modo casuale felice di aver raggiunto il mio scopo, un altro esperimento ha visto la luce.

I open the changing bag and with great emotion I see the image forming before my eyes.
Taken by the momentum, I continue to take pictures randomly happy to have reached mine purpose; another experiment has seen the light.
